The rummour flying about is that its 3 players in two out. What areas should we strengthen and who do you think is likely to be chopped ?

I think we need desperatly a new CB and LB, Keeling is wasted at LB and IMO has been player of the season, he is much needed in midfield. As for the 3rd player maybe a utility man again covering CB and maybe CM as well. Strength in depth will be the key to any sides promotion hunt. In terms of the players out I would chop Knight & Lawson, although we do seem to be top heavy with forwards...is there the need for 4 strikers when we rarely play anything other than 1 upfront ?

We defo need additional CB & LB - as you say Keeling is at his best on the left wing.

Strikers? - spoilt for choice - but we do appear to have doubled up on certain types of strikers, with Baker arriving it does push Moore out of the equation?

The MT now have started to play with more than one up-front - but only at the end of matches when we're chasing a win - perhaps we need so many strikers to make this a possibility ?

That would mean a benchfull of strikers though ! I still think there is something in Moore that will make him a cut above the rest, Keeling last season was hampered by injury and selection...given a run in the side he has been awsome. Maybe Moore is the same ? Duffy sounds like he is shot, so more than ever do we need to strengthen the defence. Need a pacey CB IMO.

I would add a LB and a CB. Presuming cuts would need to be made in exchange, I would get rid of one forward and one left back.

I assume if we had actually signed the player LMC spotted training with the squad - we may of heard his name by now?

In the absence of an official announcement I can only assume we haven't signed them yet and as such they won't be available for tonight's game?

Yeah thats true forgot about that post by LF last night...maybe the forms are being processed by Selbz Snr today and will be announced later today. Fingers crossed its a defender.

I'm sure that Knight , Moore and Lawson will receive your criticism in a positive fashion , those that seek to undermine the club should look to themselves.

To free up cash we would need to get rid of one of the bigger earners - I dont think Knight would count as a a big earner in the City Squad. Moore would be my bet

I still think Moore is our best striker we just need to give him time. I think Duffy will go because of his injuries. He is our best left back when fit but will he play again this season? It looks like Lawson will be the second as he hasn't started a game in a while. I would like to keep both players but it seems players must go before we can bring anyone in.

Has Duffy played since our cup exit at Bury? What is his injury? Will he be kept on as a reserve physio?

I think Duffy & Ward are two people id like to see kept on and help run an enhanced reserve/youth team set up. The knowledge and experience they have to pass on is like a goldmine. The youth setup especially is something I know the club are working hard on improving and will benefit the club in the long term - id rather see a budding 18 year old in the squad on next to no money than a 30+ ex league player coining it in.

The trouble is this MT seem to prefer signing senior players and replace when ness. I'm not sure what the interest is in the reserves, although Bob Batchford says otherwise. I have to be convinced. They signed three kids recently, but I have only seen one ( josh brown), who TBF at 17 is a little bit lightweight for this league. Once he builds himself up perhaps........

have you seen or heard of the other two since the grand signing?

The youth set up is flawed , the turnover of players is huge , you will not encourage any local growth if you continually drop local players everytime , Ipswich , MK Dons , Southend academy has a clear out , twobob is a nice man but I will eat my straw boater if he produces a local lad into the first team , the reserve & youth set is a sop to the locals in my opinion.

I know the ideal person to run the reserve side and bring through local talent, an ex-City player who runs a local boys side so knows a lot of the talent that is out there.

we need a center back and a left full back, i know knight is not that good but unless if we cant bring another lb in then we should keep him. lawson should go but he is under contract so we cant just get rid of him, moores time will come but we have too many strikers for one center forward spot and only a few of them can play as wingers.

At present the 3 youngsters recently signed are out on loan, along with a couple of other lads. The aim of this is to keep them match fit as Reserve games are few and far between and they usually only get to warm the subs bench for the 1st team at present.
Muir, Modeste, Hunter and Brown are now with Danny Greaves at Witham, and Carlile is with the Cowley's at Concord. We have some very talented young players and in my opinion it is important that they continue their 'Footy' Education in good hands whilst they finish maturing, although saying that, I am constantly surprised at just how strong physically and mentally they are and a couple of them have extremely good Game Brains. Age is no guarantee of ability, experience no guarantee for success in team competition, monies paid no guarantee for good value. Good young players have a lot to offer a progressive club and I would hate to see them move permanently elsewhere because they think there isn't a chance for them in the parent club.
